Winter Weather is Driving - that means a Bumpy Ride for Energy Prices. The Beacon, 1/17/2022
The Headline: Energy prices saw two 15% price moves last week, and 2022 prices are up.
The Bottom Line: Natural gas prices spiked, and dropped, by roughly 15% last week on cold weather forecasts. Even with climbing rig counts and an as-expected natural gas storage injection, winter weather-driven is driving price volatility. With continued potential for geopolitical events to make European gas prices and LNG export levels a bullish factor in coming weeks. We are advising customers to stay out of the 2022 electricity and natural gas markets this week, but to look for opportunities in 2023 and beyond.
